Tom Jones
While transitioning from his 20-year military career as an active-duty Army Special Forces Master Sergeant in Fort Polk, Louisiana, Tom Jones became the first HDO Health SkillBridge intern to join the HDO Health team under the United States Department of Defense DoD-SkillBridge program during the winter of 2022.
About Tom: After joining the Army and a year-long combat deployment to Iraq in 2003-2004 as an Infantry Soldier, Tom went to Special Forces Assessment and Selection in 2005. He was selected to attend the Special Forces Qualification Course (SFQC) to be trained as a Special Forces Medical Sergeant. Tom graduated from SFQC in 2008 and spent the next 12 years deploying to combat zones and non-combat missions to train, advise, and assist all over Asia as a Green Beret Medic. Tom has worked in many American and foreign medical centers, sometimes as the only provider of care and assistance to hundreds of people.
During that time, Tom has earned numerous awards and qualifications, including two Bronze Star Medals, Special Forces Sniper Course Level 1, and Military Freefall Jumpmaster. Tom has served in many senior positions, including company and battalion (~500 Soldiers), senior medical sergeant, and Special Forces Team Sergeant. Tom volunteered for Special Operations Training Detachment at Fort Polk starting January 2020 to spend his last three years in the military observing, coaching, and training Special Operations companies that come to train at Fort Polk, as well as prepare for transition into the civilian world. Tom finished his MBA from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in early December 2022 and accepted a healthcare administration fellowship at Summit Healthcare in Show Low, Arizona.
